Moto X Android 5.0 Lollipop update leaks, and here's what you'll be getting
The
Moto X 2014's
Android 5.0 Lollipop update has been leaked from an internal test device, and shows us the goodies to expect when the software is launched publicly.
Screenshots of a
Moto X 2014 running
Android 5.0 Lollipop have been published online by Phandroid, which appears to have acces to a sneaky source from within Motorola.
The shots confirm the
Moto X Android 5.0 Lollipop update is in testing ? although that's no surprise given how quick off the mark Motorola is these days with its Android updates.
Features, Features, Features
So what's new? While the
Moto X uses a near-vanilla version of Android, Motorola has picked and chosen a new extras that won't stomp on the Moto's precious bits.
For example, there's a new shutter timer in the camera app, but the phone still uses Motorola's custom camera interface rather than the default Google one that ships with
Android 5.0 Lollipop as standard.
The drop-down notification bar settings toggles that Lollipop debuted are here, though, and they add easy Chromecast casting and a flashlight function.
The
Moto X's lock screen style stays in place, offering the 'glance' notification style rather than forcing you to actually turn the screen on properly. It's a good move, as the Moto's near-always-on notifications are one of the phone's strong points.
Phandroid writes that the current test build of
Android 5.0 Lollipop for
Moto X doesn't use all the new notification icons you might see on a
Nexus 6, but this is all subject to change ? it's still in testing after all.
Motorola has confirmed that the
Moto X,
Moto G and even the dinky
Moto E will all get the bump up to
Android 5.0 Lollipop, but exactly when they'll arrive is still a mystery.
