Android 5.0 Lollipop officially named ahead of release
Google has officially named
Android 5.0 Lollipop ahead of its release "in the coming weeks".
Formally introduced at Google I/O earlier this year with the name
Android L, Google has finally confirmed its next iteration of Android is called
Android 5.0 Lollipop.
"Lollipop is designed to be flexible, to work on all your devices and to be customized for you the way you see fit. And just like Android has always been, it?s designed to be shared," reads the official announcement blogspot.
Google has confirmed that
Android 5.0 Lollipop will be made available on the freshly announced
Google Nexus 9,
Google Nexus 6 and Nexus Player.
It will then be made available for the
Google Nexus 10,
Nexus 7,
Nexus 5 and Google Play Edition devices "in the coming weeks" - although failed to offer a more concrete date.
The idea of
Android 5.0 Lollipop is that your
Android experience is more consistent across all your devices, thanks to the new Material Design.
Content responds to touch, transitions between content are
smoother and better animated and the whole UI focuses on
block colours and drop shadows to make everything more seamless.
There are far
more notification settings, a brand new battery saving feature that aims to extend the life of your extisting device by up to 90 minutes. There's also
64 bit CPU support with Android 5.0 Lollipop too.
