Google Nexus 6 officially unveiled as Android 5.0 monster

Forget the iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Google has just unveiled the latest must-have oversized smartphone, the Nexus 6.

Google Nexus 6

Packing a 6-inch QHD display with a stunning 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution, the plus-sized Nexus 6 is set to be a phablet follow-on to the hugely successful Nexus 5.

However, unlike Google?s recent smartphone offerings ? which were pieced together by LG ? manufacturing duties for the Nexus have been handed over to Motorola. As such, the device has a distinctly Moto X look about it.

Google Nexus 6 Features

Announced alongside the company?s latest tablet ? the Nexus 9 ? the Nexus 6 will be one of the first devices to come running the new Android 5.0 Lollipop OS direct from the box. That means a revamped Gmail service is coming.

Don?t worry, the Android 5.0 updates do get a bit more exciting. Lollipop has been given a new look thanks to the Material Design which flattens the OS and introduces more blocky colours. Further additions include a battery saver which will boost your existing handset?s staying power by a sizeable 90 minutes and improved notifications options.

About more than a software overhaul, the Nexus 6 is shaping up as a true powerhouse of the smartphone space.

Pairing the 5.96-inch QHD display?s 493 pixels-per-inch image density with oodles of power, the Nexus 6 runs the same 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor as the Note 4.

Again echoing the Note, the phone?s 3220mAh battery is partnered with a 13-megapixel, OIS enhanced rear-mounted snapper and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

With Adreno 420 graphics, the Nexus 6 will be available in both 32GB and 64GB storage capacities. With black adn white colour schemes to be made available, both handset options will feature HTC One M8 esque dual front-facing speakers.

Nexus 6 Release Date and Price

Despite the phone having been officially announced, there is currently no word on an exact Nexus 6 release date.

While pricing is also still under wraps, UK network provider O2 has become the first to confirm it will stock the handset when it eventually touches down.

Although the similarly specced Note 4 will set wannabe owners back a whopping £629, we anticipate the Nexus 6 will be far lighter on your wallet.
