Google announces HTC Nexus 9 tablet with Android Lollipop

Google has just announced its Nexus 9 tablet, touting an 8.9-inch IPS display and the brand new Android Lollipop OS.

HTC Nexus 9

The device is poised to replace the Nexus 7 as Google's premium flagship tablet.

The new slate is built by HTC, which makes the premium metal chassis and unsurprising design choice by the Taiwanese firm. They?ve not strayed too far from Nexus 7 roots however, with the device sporting the usual curvaceous design and the classic soft grip back.

The Nexus 9 weighs just 436g with three colour options on offer for the rear plate - black, white, and sand.

?The Nexus 9 is a great example of what can be achieved when two companies, united in their passion for innovative technology, come together to create a product with the user experience at the very center of the design process,? says Peter Chou, CEO, HTC.

?HTC?s unrivalled design language combines with the very latest software advancements to deliver a premium tablet, inside and out. We are thrilled to be able to bring this product to market.?

Features

The tablet also touts Nvidia?s new powerhouse Tegra K1 chip. It?s running off 64-bit architecture and clocks in at 2.3GHz. Also on-board is a Kepler DX1 GPU for added graphical heft, with 2GB of RAM in tow.

The 8.9-inch LCD screen packs 2048 x 1536 pixels which provides 287 pixels per inch. The device touts a hefty 6,700mAh li-ion battery and ships in two storage options ? 16GB or 32GB. An LTE model will also be released.

Snapping potential comes courtesy a protruding 8MP rear-facing camera, with a 1.6MP selfie shooter to boot.

HTC?s Nexus-stamped slate also promises ?immersive, layered and distortion-free? sound thanks to HTC?s front-facing BoomSound speakers.

It also ships with Android Lollipop built in, giving you access to vastly improved battery life options and 64-bit CPU architecture support.
